Everyone with a relatively older iphone 4 have been waiting for jailbreakers to provide them tools to open the root access to their phone especially after release of ios 7.1 which has great UI improvements and relatively better performance than previous versions of ios 7. As of now, there are no untethered jailbreaks available for ios 7.1. However, there is a tethered jailbreak available for iphone 4. But there is a catch in that too. If you need to unlock your device, you need to have your "Lockdown" folder saved from your previous ios version otherwise you iphone will be rendered useless. I will try to provide you step-by-step guide to jailbreak, activate and unlock your iPhone 4 on ios 7.1. Please provide feedback if you have any issues with it.

Jailbreak ios 7.1 on iPhone 4:
1. Save your lockdown folder if you have not done it so far. Use any root file explorer like ifunbox, diskaid or other file explorers. or by using SSH client. After saving the folder on local machine, email it to yourself so that it can be accessed anywhere.
2. Attach your phone with the PC using USB cable and close all/any running instances of iphone related software including redsnow, itunes, diskaid etc.
3. Put your phone in DFU mode:
- Switch off you phone
- Press Power+Home button for ten seconds
- Release the power button while holding the home button for next 10 seconds
4. Download and extract Geeksn0w from http://geeksn0w.it/
5. Run the software in administrator mode by right-clicking the icon and clicking "Run as administrator"
6. Follow the instructions on screen. Make sure you do not remove your device even if you think that your device has booted. It will restart 2-3 times.
7. Once you receive the message that it is done, you may remove the phone and connect to your local wi-fi network or connect SSH using iFunbox 10.6 or WinSCP
8. Copy your previous Lockdown folder and overwrite on the existing Lockdown folder in Library
9. Restart your phone by booting tethered boot functionality of Geeksn0w.
